幸子の話

This is the first in what I hope will be a series of stories written by my daughter.  This one was published in the 2008 Kawamura Shogako Story Collection.  For those of you that don’t read Japanese, the story is entitled “Ofuro.”  Ofuros look like a bathtub.  However, in Japan, you bathe and wash first.  Then you get into the ofuro, which is always hot, and soak for ten to fifteen minutes.  This story was written in December 2007 and tells about one our daughter’s favorite things:  getting in the ofuro with her mom.  The story goes on to tell of how they enjoy singing Christmas carols, she stresses “in English”, before they end up laughing.

Literal translation can be found here.

I think this is the best story you’ve ever shared! :)

I would love to hear the literal translation.

  2. Madge

I am certain that you have a budding author in residence so please give us a translation.

I’m sure the story was excellent but my computer didn’t have the necessary font apparently. I just got a bunch of funny characters on the screen. Could I buy a vowel??

Thanks for your comments and request for clarification. I thought it best to let the author do the translation. However, the author has been busy this week studying for a big kanji test on the eighty she has learned thus far this school year (which started in April.) For the record, that is the same number they learned all of last year. Once we get that taken care of, we will have the author in for a translation and retelling.
