On Monday I woke up at 6:30. I went downstairs and saw granddaddy and grandma.
We made palm branches. Granddaddy taught me to draw the stem and the leaves. Then we made postcards with palm branches on them.
Dad asked grandma and me to go to the post office, the Double Black Cat store, and 99. I took dad’s wallet. Grandma didn’t know where these places were. She followed me. First we went to the post office to mail four letters. When we got to the post office I glued three of the letters [shut]. Dad had glued the forth one. In Japan there is glue at the post office [to close the envelopes]. (Editors note: The Japanese are far too civilized to lick their envelopes like those barbarians in the West!)
Next we went to the double black cat store (くろねこのみせ)。 We got a box and a form because we are going to send a present to a friend. (Editors note: “double black cats” is a literal translation of the name of one of the shipping companies in Japan; the US equivalent would be UPS or FedEx.)
The last place we went to was 99. (Editors note: 99 is a Japanese store chain equivalent of the US based Dollar General store…but without that nasty mothball smell.) Dad told us to get a daikon that was as big as my arm. We found a daikon that was as big as my arm. (Editors note: This is the daikon seen in the last photo of the Farmer Sachan and the Daikon post. ) Then grandma and I went home.
